How to convert WebP to PNG

  1. Add WebP images. Drag WebP files onto the drop box, click Choose files, choose a folder of WebP images, or paste a copied WebP image.
  2. Resize if needed (optional). PNG is lossless, so there is no quality setting. If the PNG files are too large, set a maximum width.
  3. Download PNG files. Click Download next to each PNG, or Download all (ZIP) to save a whole batch at once.

Each file is converted the moment you add it. Change the size option and the whole list is converted again.

When to choose WebP to PNG instead of JPG

Both PNG and JPG open everywhere, so the question is what is in the WebP image.

If you are not sure, try PNG first and look at the file size in the result list. A photo of several megabytes as PNG is a sign that JPG is the better format.

WebP to PNG with transparency

WebP supports an alpha channel, so a WebP image can have fully or partly transparent pixels. Some converters flatten that onto white. This converter keeps the alpha channel exactly as decoded, so a transparent WebP logo is still transparent as a PNG and drops cleanly onto any background in Word, Canva, Photoshop, Figma or a website builder. The result list notes “Transparency kept” for every WebP file that had an alpha channel.

Is a PNG converted from WebP the same quality?

Yes, as far as the pixels go. The conversion takes the decoded image and stores it losslessly, so nothing gets worse in the PNG step. What PNG cannot do is restore detail a lossy WebP threw away when it was first saved. If the WebP looks sharp, the PNG looks exactly as sharp.

The PNG will usually be larger than the WebP. WebP compression is more efficient than PNG for both photos and graphics, so a PNG of the same image needs more bytes. For screenshots and flat graphics the difference is moderate; for photos a PNG can be many times larger than the WebP.

A private PNG converter for WebP files

Most online converters upload your file, convert it on a server and let you download the result. Here, your browser decodes the WebP image and writes the PNG itself. Nothing is uploaded, so private screenshots, scanned documents and unreleased designs stay on your device. There are no file limits, no queue, and it keeps working without an internet connection once the page is loaded.

Metadata is not carried over: a PNG made here contains only the image, without the camera or GPS details that may be inside a WebP photo.

Convert WebP to PNG on any device

The page runs in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on Windows, macOS, Linux, iPhone, iPad and Android. On a computer, drag WebP files or folders from your file manager. On a phone, tap Choose files to pick WebP images from your gallery or Files app; each PNG downloads to your Downloads or Files folder.

Getting the best PNG files

Keep PNG files a sensible size

Because PNG stores every pixel, big photos make big files. If a page builder, email or chat app rejects a PNG for being too large, pick a maximum width under Resize. 1920 pixels is plenty for a full-screen slide; 1280 or 800 pixels suit blog posts, documents and messages. Smaller images are never enlarged.

Check transparency before you use the file

Thumbnails in the result list are shown on a light background, so a white logo on a transparent background can look empty. Open the downloaded PNG in your editor or drop it onto a dark slide to see the clear areas. If you want a solid background instead, convert to JPG and choose the background colour there.

Batch and folder conversion

Choose folder, or drag a folder onto the drop box, to convert every WebP image inside it, including subfolders. Download all (ZIP) keeps the same folder structure, so a set of icons or game sprites comes back organised exactly the way it went in. Files that are not images are skipped and counted.

WebP to PNG FAQ

How do I convert WebP to PNG?

Drop WebP files into the box at the top of this page or click Choose files. Each image is converted straight away. Click Download next to a file, or Download all (ZIP) when you have several.

Does the PNG keep transparency?

Yes. PNG supports full alpha transparency, so transparent and semi-transparent pixels in your WebP image stay exactly as they are in the PNG. Logos, stickers and cut-out product photos keep their clear background.

Is the PNG conversion lossless?

The PNG step is lossless: every pixel the browser decodes from the WebP file is stored in the PNG without further compression loss. If the WebP was saved as lossy, the PNG keeps that image exactly as it is but cannot bring back detail the WebP already dropped.

Why is my PNG bigger than the WebP file?

PNG is lossless and does not use the advanced compression WebP has, so a PNG of a photo is often three to ten times larger than the WebP. That is normal. For photos, a JPG is a smaller choice; for graphics with transparency, PNG is the right one.

Are my WebP files uploaded?

No. This converter runs entirely in your browser. Your images are converted on your own device and are never sent to a server.

What happens to an animated WebP?

A PNG made here holds one image, so an animated WebP becomes a PNG of its first frame. The result list marks files that were animated.
